there was a tragic explosion this morning that resulted in the loss of many pots. luckily most were old misc pieces and tests. but dang, I didn’t expect the tests to explode…
I am SO excited to see this guy fired. The crying pot sits at a slight angle - almost like he’s turning away from something… And where he’s positioned, the heat traveling through the kiln should run right over his face! This is exactly what I imagined when I was making these. Hopefully the finished pot will show what he’s been through, but it’ll be a week before we find out. For now…
Just for reference, this is what the kiln looks like. The salt leaves glaze on every surface. The inner walls are actually quite beautiful…
Quick update from the salt firing! Currently, everyone’s pots are ready to be loaded. We start stacking in the morning, and start actually burning wood by tomorrow night. If you look closely you can just barely see my burnished vase and the loop from my crying pots on the far table…

I’m still making work for a salt firing next month, and I couldn’t leave this guy out. I ended up pressing slabs into the mold and then attaching them - it was a lot of effort, but I’m dying to see how these will look! (cone 10 porcelain, currently only bisque fired but destined for the wood / salt kiln)
