1. What made you ship it? I’m a big sucker for the royalty/loyal knight dynamic, but then add in the initial drama and tension with Ashe ABSOLUTELY NOT trusting him in the beginning? *chef kiss* it was great to see Ashe unleash all of her rage onto him based on what she thought she knew and Basch just... quietly accepting it, because if it makes her feel better, then he will not argue. Damn. Right in the feels.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship? THE YEARNING. It’s not explicit or in your face, but all the quiet moments they have together? Yes please. It’s so good and so fitting for both their characters. I’m not a huge fan of when characters have these grandiose love confessions for each other (I mean, unless it’s fitting for the canon and characters), so whenever I see people be subtle, yet genuine with how they feel for someone else? That just screams at me. These two enjoying quiet moments together continues to make me fall in love with them again and again.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I’m not sure if this is unpopular or not, but I do NOT believe these two ever get a happily ever after together in that they can live together and get married and so forth. They have other promises they made outside of each other they need to uphold. And of course they’d support one another, because sometimes love means letting the people who mean the most to you go off and live their best life, even if it’s without. Also I am 100% for them having a long-distance secret affair *dreamy sigh* yeah that checks of a lot of boxes right there.

What do you like about the relationship between Ashe and Basch? (I may have been snooping in your FFXII tag...)

Oh man, what don’t I love about these two??

I am a sucker for the royalty/loyal knight trope, so that alone makes these two appealing, but their story arc together is so lovely and heartbreaking. Their intro together - with Ashe slapping and berating him while Basch calmly accepts her wrath - is truly memorable and some great foundations for enemies to lovers territory. Ashe keeps giving him a cold shoulder and not trusting him. And Basch is completely fine if she hates him forever, so long as he can protect her. Even when she veers towards a more evil option for saving and protecting her people, he’s beside her. The loyalty kink is strong with this one!

What always gets me the most is towards the end, when Ashe is begging Balthier to come back alive and is in tears despite them essentially winning, Basch is the one who quietly steps forward and places a hand on her shoulder. She doesn’t swat him away. There’s never an explicit scene where they forgive each other for past actions, but the fact Basch does this and Ashe let’s him says so much.

And then he goes with Larsa to carry out his brother’s dying wish and they’re separated and probably can never be together in a way their societies would deem acceptable (like marriage or whatever)... oh wow, right in the feels! Penelo’s letter mentioning Ashe missing him and Larsa giving said letter to Basch when that part comes up.... AHHHHHHHHH. Like I just want them together and happy, but knowing they truly can’t makes for some delicious secret/forbidden relationship stuff. Bonus points for a long-distance relationship!! 😍

I love them so much and it warms my heart to know others do too 💕💕💕

Mutual pining is delicious but recently I've been very into a variant, mutual pining where they both know the other one loves them but some very valid noble reason keeps them apart (like a sacred job or the timing is so bad right now, not like a spouse) but they both know they'd be together if circumstances were different but they aren't and there's nothing either of them can do about that except....maybe.......what used to be So Important that they had to stay apart starts to seem not as important anymore.......but what if the impossiblity of being together was the appeal for both of them in the first place because neither knows what to do with a romantic relationship and they'd only disappoint the other person if they actually got together......it's better to stay as they are rather than risk everything in their life for the chance of something more.....and yet

Ideally these characters come Very Close to having honest good communication together but something remains unsaid, always unspoken, and also there's a LOT of tense handtouching
