This person put this so eloquently and perfectly and I couldn’t agree more with everything they have to say!
I would, however, add that in addition to all these points it’s important to remember that Marius was not a leader in this rebellion. It wasn’t his war. He eventually grew to sympathize with the cause his friends were fighting for, but it wasn’t always this way and his involvement in any planning and organization was minimal at best if existent at all.
Enjolras telling him he’s the chief, while heartwarming, isn’t remotely possible from a logistics standpoint.
As this person points out, Marius spends much of his book in poverty and dealing with more immediate threats to his personal well-being than the organization of a rebellion. When the barricade falls, everyone involved with its conception is dead. Everyone.
If we’re going just off of the argument that it was incredibly dangerous to be associated with the rebellion I could still see people putting forth an argument that Marius could operate in hiding and begin organizing a new rebellion in the shadows, (which I would argue is a narrow-minded and unfair argument, but we’re playing Devil’s Advocate here) but the point that I’m trying to make is that Marius wasn’t a leader. If Enjolras had been the one to survive, with his contacts and connection to other people involved in logistics, I could see this happening more.
Furthermore, we don’t know that he DIDN’T. The book ends an unspecified amount of time after the Barricade falls with the death of Valjean, and Hugo, for all his rants and tirades, doesn’t provide us much insight into the future of the Pontmercys. Perhaps he did start fighting back in his own small way later on after he had recovered.
Anyway, as someone who loves Marius, here’s my two cents. Also, mad respect to @mycurrentobsessionis for pointing out how badass Marius is at the barricade. I hardly ever see anyone mention it.
something about that les mis that annoys me ENDLESSLY is that marius just. goes back to being rich after the barricade fails? he even sings a whole ass song about his friends dying for nothing. like bro! the least you could do is respect what they wouldve wanted . and maybe its supposed to be romantic? i fail to see how but i am autistic, aro, and my girlfriend is patria so my perception may be warped idk
and ive not gotten to this point in the book yet so i assume theres some more context there. but like—just knowing the musical, it just seems pretty shitty of him yknow

There was a really cool post a while ago I’m desperate to find where a deaf person described in a poem how colors had been described to them and it ends with them talking about the color green being life and growth and how it “is still very much my favorite color.”
Does anyone know what I’m talking about or where it is??? I’m desperate to find it it was so good 😭😭😭

So I’ve seen some interesting takes about whether or not Eponine should be in the Epilogue of Les Mis because she like, why is she there for Valjean’s death? They had like one conversation and now she’s helping send him off to heaven, tf? I can post my actual thoughts on Eponine being in the epilogue another time, but I wanted to explore some other options instead of her.
This is also under the assumption that there HAS to be two people, Fantine and someone else. I know the movie just had Fantine, which does make sense, but also the harmonies there are just so lovely, I want them always.
The reason I think Eponine is there to begin with has to do more with Marius than it does Valjean. There’s a symmetry in having Cosette’s mother and someone important to Marius.
That being said, let’s explore some options.
Option 1: Enjolras
Enj fits our requirement of being important to Marius for obvious reasons, but he’s also someone that Valjean would have been at the very least aware of. Also, with the fact that the epilogue includes a victorious barricade, it makes sense that Enjolras would be the one to help lead Valjean to that version of heaven.
Additionally, the lyrics he would sing are “Take my hand, I’ll lead you to salvation
Take my love, for love is everlasting.”
Which is very fitting for the leader of the revolution who loved his country and loved his friends with such fierce passion.
Option 2: Gavroche
Gavroche would be a good option for the same reasons of being important to Marius and someone Valjean would know. Additionally, the innocence of youth feels fitting for being led to heaven and, again, led to the barricade. (I know Eponine was at the barricade too, but her reasons for being there were different.)
Option 3: Courfeyrac
Cosette’s mother and Marius’s best friend. That’s it. That’s pretty much where this one ends. The main issue with this one is that Courf isn’t really featured very heavily in the musical and unless you’ve read the book or do some research, you don’t know his relation to Marius.
And those are my main suggestions. If you have another suggestion, pop it in the tags!

My God. The infamous Marius description.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LES MIS LETTERS IN ADAPTATION - The Sobriquet: Mode of Formation of Family Names, LM 3.6.1 (Les Miserables Broadway, 1997)
Marius was, at this epoch, a handsome young man, of medium stature, with thick and intensely black hair, a lofty and intelligent brow, well-opened and passionate nostrils, an air of calmness and sincerity, and with something indescribably proud, thoughtful, and innocent over his whole countenance. His profile, all of whose lines were rounded, without thereby losing their firmness, had a certain Germanic sweetness, which has made its way into the French physiognomy by way of Alsace and Lorraine, and that complete absence of angles which rendered the Sicambres so easily recognizable among the Romans, and which distinguishes the leonine from the aquiline race. He was at that period of life when the mind of men who think is composed, in nearly equal parts, of depth and ingenuousness. A grave situation being given, he had all that is required to be stupid: one more turn of the key, and he might be sublime. His manners were reserved, cold, polished, not very genial. As his mouth was charming, his lips the reddest, and his teeth the whitest in the world, his smile corrected the severity of his face, as a whole. At certain moments, that pure brow and that voluptuous smile presented a singular contrast. His eyes were small, but his glance was large.

I think one of the things that makes Clockmakers Daughter so good is how much you can just tell the people involved enjoy it like watching the staged concert seeing different songs that were written and performed for it you can just tell they have so much fun with it especially Fra Fee anytime I see him doing something for the show he's just glowing and you can tell he loves it and enjoys playing Will and it makes it so much more enjoyable to watch seeing not only how it improves their performance but their love for it is so contagious

there is a reason mcgonagall and remus believe it's sirius tho. it's in the books lol
Yeah yeah yeah, I know the whole they both thought each other was a traitor and Remus didn’t know Sirius wasn’t Secret Keeper anymore, but they still don’t really get into the WHY of all that.

Okay so I’m spitballing here, stop me if this doesn’t make sense. Peter Pettigrew fakes his death and frames Sirius for the Potters’ murders, right? But knowing what everyone knows about James and Sirius’ relationship and Sirius’ attitude about his family and the Dark Arts, it makes no sense that anyone would actually believe he did it. Especially not Remus or McGonagall.
So there has to be a reason that they did. This is why having a Marauders show would be so good because it could possibly set this whole thing up, but that’s a conversation we’ve done to death.
What if Sirius was trying to help Regulus? What if he hadn’t entirely written him off as a death eater and was in contact with him, trying to get him out of Voldemort’s ranks? In the process, he took a step back from Order work, deciding not to be on any one side, but be on his brother’s side. That way Regulus wouldn’t necessarily equate leaving the death eaters to joining the Order.
He starts getting into fights with Remus and Dumbledore and other members of the Order about his dedication to seeing Voldemort fall, about his activity in the Order, and about his fraternizing with his brother.
But his fraternizing with his brother is one of the reasons Regulus begins to turn away from Voldemort. He doesn’t share his discoveries about Horcruxes with Sirius out of an over abundance of caution and genuine fear both for his own safety and for Sirius, but Sirius’s involvement in his life was a direct influence in Regulus’s actions near the end.
And when Sirius speaks so bitterly of Regulus to Harry, it’s not only because he doesn’t know what Regulus did and how heroically Regulus died, but because he regrets spending so much time trying to save him. If he hadn’t wasted his time on his apparently irredeemable brother, people like Remus and the Order and the rest of the Wizarding World wouldn’t have been so uncertain where his loyalties lay, and it wouldn’t have been so easy for them to believe that Sirius Black, loyal to a fault, had chosen the brother he loved over the brother he made.

I promise this is for writing purposes and not eat the rich purposes, but can anyone from New Orleans tell me the name of a semi-rich/upper middle class New Orleans suburb? I need to know where this doctor and his family live and go to school for one of my wips. Preferably somewhere in close enough proximity to the more midtown areas for the doctor to work there.

Listen guys I know this is going to make me sound pretentious but we need to accept that liking certain things doesn’t make you pretentious. Thinking you’re better than other people because you like those things makes you pretentious. Many Shakespeare nerds aren’t pretentious. And some Taylor Swift fans are. It’s all in the attitude.

Four Friends from Ghost Quartet really be like:
Verse one: my loyalty extends unyieldingly from times I was poor to times I was rich
Verse two: I’m sacrilegious and rebellious but that doesn’t mean I don’t stand for something
Verse three: My dad was a sad alcoholic but he was still a good dad
Verse four: sometimes things fall apart, but sometimes the world is beautiful and that’s important too
And then pretends it’s a song about whisky.
