The line between “sellout” and “art” is very thin. Regarding the Brad Pitt centerfold in this months QG, where he is floating dead or alive very colorfully in a very colorful pond in a very ad-heavy magazine.

What if reports of “ghosts” are really just aliens having a bad day and using their invisibility powers to take it out on us?

I keep discovering that more obstacles than I thought are self conceived. “Healthy food doesn’t taste good” - why does food need to taste good? It’s for nutrition, not sensation (or feelings).

Have you ever seen an alien?
I mean, a real live alien among us? I think I might've, more than once. They're the people that linger in our minds, we remember their face so exactly. And why not, mosquitos somehow travel all over the world and are an almost unstoppable force, they've figured out how to survive. Maybe these aliens are kinda like that? Not bad necessarily, just - ubiquitous? Pervasive?
My first question is are you friendly, or enemy? So far I see no harm, only positive growth, a quiet leadership. Is that you guys? How long have you guys been here? I can see right front and center in the Metropolitan Museum there is an entire wing dedicated to "Alien Influence" - and it's not Area 51 rumors, it's from the Babylonian era.
Totally happy to coexist in this symbiotic relationship though! What do you guys get from us though? And did I see a few of you @Timewarp2021 ?

Statistical Anomaly or Coded Message?
“Should this be a Captains Log or Tumblr post?” I think to myself as I sit down in front of my machine. "Let’s start with the first and move to the second...wait, start with the first, and move to the second!" This just happened three times in a row. I commented on purchasing a laptop that had mostly newer stats except one which was comparable to it’s predecessor, and I started writing this on a Mac and am now moving to my gaming laptop for its bigger keyboard, and I feel like there was one more...or maybe I’m supposed to find a new one. Interesting. Anyway - coincidence? Yes, it should be, it's a statistical anomaly for sure. Or coded message from the Heavens? No way to prove for sure. Just like in a chess match, it’s important to note there are absolutely offensive moves, defensive moves, and then there is what happens in between - frequently, and usually taken for granted i.e. unnoticed, unobserved, unanalyzed. Just remembered what that third one was while proofreading - this post! it started as a “Captain's Log” personal journal entry, but has evolved into something I wonder if others find interesting, in Tumblr?
So what do you do in that situation, when one element of your life is in a position in and circumstance that you really “can’t stand on” (I imagine the untempered glass panes from Squid Game), something you can’t prove for sure? When it’s hard to decide on what to do with this piece, this question in front of you with some unproven, unknown, variables. Well, you might do something with it, sure, or do you just leave it there? But I’ll bet you’ll definitely take a look at the other pieces you have first. Matter of fact, I’ll bet there are a few pieces out there with statistically much better odds of moving you closer to success. So you act on those instead, like what day is it today, what is the weather like?. And time moves on. Time - the fourth dimension that sometimes others also seem to conveniently disregard, but it’s an entire dimension on its own, so powerful, changing so many variables in this chess game of life.
So then we start to understand our priorities, we want to win this chess game of life. But the number of differences between comparing life and the chess game are even more than the similarities, worth keeping that in mind. Anyway, some people live their lives extremely aggressively, sacrificing pieces left and right but advancing towards the goal quickly, against whatever opponent they’re up against in their city or town, environment, government, continent. Others live cautiously, hurting at each piece lost. And some, I think, get so scared when they realize it just keeps getting bigger forever the more you look at it, choose to ignore it altogether, shrugging their shoulders for every win, and piece lost, “it was not my will”, I am not responsible, for either blame or congratulations.
Let’s go guys. Yeah loss hurts. On so many levels - “I got it wrong!” Or “I didn’t see that coming!”, but we also get to choose what we do with that too. Moan and groan and allow emotion to make our next choice? Or take that pain and use it for what it brings, an opportunity...a new piece has just moved into your ground. Not all chess pieces have the same movement capabilities. And there really is only 1 king and queen. Would the Rook expect the Pawn to keep up as it races from one edge of the board to the other? How can that rook expect its pawn friend from the beginning to understand the strategy the rook can implement with say, the bishop piece? Or that when the queen asks it to castle her precious, game ending king? The pawn hears only one thing, “advance forward one tile”. If there is an enemy diagonally, the order might come to take that piece. And that is the entirety of that pawn's life. In this case, is Life still similar to chess, or am I in unknown territory already?

Thoughts on Age of Transparency
We are in the information age. And the scientist part inside me is so happy about it. Finally, the things I suspected are confirmed for all to see! And so many questions I never knew I had, answered! And as one of my richer older friend said a while back, it does feel like we approach the Age of Transparency.
Before, however few years back, if someone was being accused of bad behavior it was an acceptable answer to say “you don’t know me!”. Now, that is no longer an acceptable answer, because yes, as a matter of fact, we do know you. For example Nicky Minaj, talking about being afraid of injecting the Covid Vaccine. Take a look at this: https://libredd.it/r/PoliticalHumor/comments/prsfev/well_nicki_minaj_did_the_research/ . Hmm, I think, the answer coming out of your mouth no longer matches your behavior, so you have no figurative leg to stand on here.
Am I comfortable with that level of transparency on myself? Yeah, but it’s not there yet. I don’t want a panel of anonymous internet users judging me. Or maybe they are the best judges? If my life were to be fully transparent, I would be ok with it on definitely at least this one condition: the people judging would need to see and weigh pretty much all my life, not pick and choose. Who human would be capable of that? Not human...Cyborg? Definitely sounds like it needs to be some kind of AI to me.

When I was a kid I thought the choice was clear: of course escape the Matrix, take the red pill because of course we should prefer reality even if it is horrible over some virtual fantasy! Watching this trailer, I can understand that “bad” guy from the first movie…I like steaks too.

Staying Ahead
In pursuit of moving goal posts:
We wake up. Immediately are bombarded with notifications that are a mix of happiness, work, and displeasure. Fear too, if you check the news first thing. Then we get a coffee. And try to prepare to face the starting day.
And then we do our best. I know you guys are doing your best. And what happens? We look back and only see where we messed up. And worry about why we do it at all.
Just keep going right? Allow the tightening of this world wide web around our privacy, our throats? Stay inactive on the myriad amount of global issues demanding immediate attention, a constantly flashing red alarm buzzing in our ears: the planet is dying and our species is doing it while making it hard to breath the air the whole time, we torture hundreds of millions of living creatures every day before killing them to eat and some even do it for sport like bull riding in Spain, we have set up an economy based on common shared beliefs, we're almost done developing a mechanical version of us that is much smarter faster and stronger that may turn on us unless we mix species, we have people who still devote their entire life purpose to an imagined magical wizard in the sky in a destructive way to society reinforcing their "right" to continue...ding, another email in your inbox, text from a friend, date night, instagram like, and it's Friday.

Thoughts on "Future" Next 5-15 years
Yes, electronic music first comes to mind. Maybe because the music at B&N is a bit irritating, but luckily not horrible catchy pop like in a Duane Reade. Yes lots of synth and lasers and electronics working in harmony, connected to a wired and wireless web letting each of us touch each other with a finger tap. Also I really like electronic music.
Robots. Tesla is working on one right now. Humanoid robots replacing manual labor, such as food production, and transportation. I suspect we’ll hold on to the receiving money part of it, hopefully never give that part up.
Climate change results will hurt those who ignored it. Big nasty corporations will hopefully have to reinvent themselves to be PBC-like. The successful and intelligent ones, driven, those who understand how critical it is to continue to literally evolve (and yes, you have to first believe in science - evolution - ) will survive. Hopefully. Humanity will have a lot of new and tougher questions to answer about their understanding of the world. What human rights? Those just exist because we are motivated to agree with those ideas. That understood, we should collectively acknowledge the silly time-wasting and destructive extremist governments like Texas (and their abortion/etc initiatives), and let whoever wants to move there go, so they can collapse on themselves without hurting the rest of us. Lucky we have the Satanists closer to the side of reason there, maybe they can buffer some of the damage - they are actively working, are you?
Moving on...so how to be successful?

Life is Like a Bag of m&m's
Let's say you have a bag of m&m's. You reach down to grab the next one, and you can think about it one of many ways:
- "Oh I hope it's a blue one!" and if it is, wow how happy you are! Without this hope, this satisfaction would never have happened.
- "Oh I hope it's a green one!" and if it is a blue one, wow, what disappointment. If you wouldn't have had your hopes up, you would've left no room for pain.
- "Oh I don't care which color." and if so, do the colors blend together as you eat the bag, no highs or lows, or do you just notice and delight at their colors still? Is it better to have a preference and open up the chance for joy or hurt, or be like the buddhist monk in pursuit of the perfect neutral they call nirvana, and never let anything shake you?

“Even an idiot can look wise, if they keep quiet.”
I used to think that means “don’t speak”, hide your own ignorance. But now I also see the flip side - don’t assume the other person’s silence is a wise and humble analysis of the disagreement in progress.
They may be thinking irrationally and completely differently from what you assume of them. They may be hurting from the realization they are wrong. Or they may be playing not fair, and only realize it halfway themselves. Or just having a tough day and asking for help is hard.
There are two kinds of people who are quiet in conversations - idiots and the wise. Not speaking lets the matter go unexposed at a vulnerable time.

More Thoughts on Being an Adult
The most important part of becoming an adult is realizing who you are.
Once you know your passion, your strengths, you can bravely be yourself, and the mission of "growing up" is complete. Becoming an Adult isn't about your parents, your future, not anyone but you.

Youth Like Summer
Just like every summer has an end, every youth does to.
Sometimes you may not want to let that go - it’s so warm, so free, so invincible, so pure, so simple, right? All I have to do is find someone to love, and that someone love you too. And everyone’s approach is different so that helps make fun and that’s the colors that paint the picture of our society, our species.
But sooner or later you start to realize some things. The energy that used to fuel you in music now sounds loud, yes, but more than that, the energy there is - misguided? Too bold, unrestrained. (talking to the music) "You have to be smart, cautious, think through your next step!" We know by then what happens when you carelessly, fearlessly throw yourself out into this great big universe that your life only describes a tiny tiny tiny fraction of. We’re wise - we’re older. We’ve aged. We’re also a little tired. Life takes a real toll on you, scars both mental and physical are not only trophies, though we do our best to wear them with pride, they’re markers of our brushes with death. There are rules, and we’ve learned them, and it’s still a beautiful life - but we’re not young anymore. We are in the next stage, adulthood. What does that mean? What is my objective here?
Was there an objective to begin with? I kinda...did what felt good, what felt right.
Should that change now?
At the age of 34 I feel like I’m standing on a small hilltop, finally catching a breath, looking over a massive, massive battlefield. Covered with an enormous, explosive, massive battle. We’re all wrestling for it, for happiness, joining whatever team seems like it knows best, and by ourselves if we have to.
*Look for the way out, take what you can* I realized.
Others have figured that out too, there’s a lot of them up there already, with their families, in the hills away from the fight. It’s actually not that far.
Is it the same as Youth though? Will that foothold on the hill, a large family vying for your attention, be as vibrant and as joyous and (as fun) as Youth? Hey! To those of you already up there, is it? Any guidance, is there a happier, easier, funner way? If not, I, we, are ready to embrace it, arms wide open. We get it, spirituality fits into this thing somehow too, just...
