Haryana Government has decided to organize 'Khelo India Youth Games, 2021' in February 2022 in view of the possible third wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Earlier the games was proposed to held from November 21 to 30 this year at five places including Panchkula, Chandigarh, Shahbad, Ambala and Delhi. A decision to postponed the games was taken in the first meeting of the Organizing-cum-Coordination Committee regarding the preparation of ‘Khelo India Youth Games- 2021’ held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal here today. Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Sandeep Singh was also present in the meeting. In the meeting, the Chief Minister directed that as ‘Khelo India Youth Games-2021’ are to be held in the Under-18 category and as Director of AIIMS New Delhi and other experts have predicted the possibility of the third wave of COVID-19 in October-November the officers concerned should ensure that COVID-19 protocol should be strictly followed during the games. He said that constant talks should be held with the Union Sports Minister, Sh. Anurag Thakur about this programme and if possible, possibilities should be explored to organize some events of the Games at some places in Himachal Pradesh. During the meeting, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Pankaj Nain also gave a presentation on the salient features of ‘Khelo India Youth Games-2021’. There will be a total of 25 sports competitions including five indigenous games. About 8,500 players are likely to participate, out of which 5,072 will be athletes, including 2,400 female athletes. and 2,672 will be male. SWIMMERS SEEKING BMC clarification on opening of pools for competitive training Greater Amateur Aquatic Association (GMAAA) president Kusal Roy has sought clarification from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on whether competitive swimmers can use pools for training as per the Maharashtra government's latest 'unlock' plan. Sporting activities, which were halted due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in April, resumed on Monday after the Maharashtra government eased the stringent restrictions which had been imposed to contain the spread of the deadly virus. However, there is no clarity on the use of outdoor swimming pools. "I write to you on behalf of all competitive swimmers in Mumbai city. The latest unlock guidelines allow outdoor sports but there is no specific mention of swimming in outdoor pools. "Due to this issue, clubs are not able to open their outdoor pools for competitive training," Roy wrote in a letter to BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal, a copy of which is in possession of PTI. The GMAAA chief urged Chahal to clarify on the matter while assuring that all safety guidelines would be followed by the swimmers. "If you kindly issue a clarification that allows for training in competitive swimming in outdoor pools, we will be very grateful. We will ensure that all safety guidelines are followed in this regard.
