Pt 2: Society

A few changes in society were made. The society they live in now is strict, especially towards kids. The children are deiciplined from a very young age to “obey society’s rules.”

Rule number 1: Don’t disobey your higher ups. You can be a little rebellious towards your parents but if you act the same way with the higher ups like teachers, workers and staff, you’ll get severely punished. Like a old school whoppin with a ruler or getting looked away, like they do in some Thailand schools. (Sadly)

Rule number 2: Dont. Go. Outside. The. City. Walls. Sure, they can take a ferry to get to point A to point B but they will be carefully watched by the guards that patrol on land and on the ferries. It is strictly forbidden to dip you toes in the water in case of a “red fish” or “agile fish attack. They do come to the surface and roam around, therefore children will be watched like a hawk by the staff and guards.

Rule number 3: Lastly, pollution. Society has become more strict when it comes to pollution, they have destroyed land with it, why would they destroy their ocean, where they’ll possibly be stuck forever too? They have gotten quite good at reducing plastic, only being used when carrying food or protecting goods. The only trash you’d see would be school notes that were tossed into the ocean by a disobedient child.

The Lore:

It takes place in a alternate universe where humanity has almost succeeded to destroy the earth. Due to global warming, the sea levels have risen to such extreme heights, causing mass flooding and destruction to the environments and cities. Humanity had to start building these platforms at sea to sustain themselves, you could temporarily live on land but it was not recommended and you would most likely get swept away by the sea. (Kinda like in Ice Age.)

The citizens were brought to sea, where they’d live, possibly forever. The government and the people were very aware of the global warmings and destruction they were causing their planet but they kept doing it anyway. They were now scrambling for solutions. 1 thing was for sure, they could never go back to land, once their home.

But how were they going to get food? Supplies? The goods? How were they going to do business with other nations if they lived at sea? They did find a solution to this. Train rails, hundreds of them, connecting one part of a society to another and of course boats, lots of them. They didn’t always have to be huge but not small either. Just, ferry sized. The ferries also carried people but surprisingly, not many wanted to take the ferry to get them places, they wanted trains. So they did get trains. Underwater trains, the train was protected by glass, obliviously and was seen as a “Cozy and nice” way of traveling. Because you could see the beautiful ocean, minus the little amount of trash if you look closely at the bottom. The train was not at the bottom though, it was instead held up by pillars.

The manufactured city, parts of it at least, was protected by these gigantic walls. Their purpose was to protect the citizens from huge waves and even the floodings themselves.

But the government was still unsure about the situation. You see, something peculiar happened during this period. The forest had started “fighting back”, no, Mother Nature was “fighting back”. These peculiar, strange and big moths had started appearing everywhere and were attacking people. It was estimated that they came out every month. Moths can’t bite people because of their tiny mouths and bodies but these ones weren’t that small and they were even hostile. The ones who were bitten became severely and even deathly ill. New and strange sea creatures had started to attack shippers, creatures that weren’t even from the prehistoric times. They looked like whales but were more agile and had spiral like patterns. The creatures were dark skinned, because they were (presumably) from the depths of the ocean. (Creatures who come from the depths of the ocean tend to be see-trough, bioluminescent or darker skinned due to their environment.) There was an on going theory about “what if Mother Nature was sending them up to attack the people who ruined her?” But no one took it that seriously. The wall is also there to protect the people from the “whales” They were huge and even gigantic, depending on how old they were. There was presumably 4 new species.

1st. Agile Whales with razor sharp teeth, humanity’s biggest threat. Not only did they destroy ships and even eat people, they also seemed to be sentient, understanding that humans were afraid of them.

2nd. Bioluminescent sharks with tentacles hanging out of their stomachs, not like organs, it’s theorized as more of a mating thing. It is theorized that they mate with these tentacles.

3rd. Gigantic Snails/slugs sliding beneath the ocean floor, not the biggest threat but when they are angered they will make a screech so loud it will cause anything close to them, even the ocean floor itself to rumble.

4th. A new species of fish. They are the food source to the agile whales and a bunch of parasites for humanity. They scrape up infrastructure, have razor sharp and they also seem to be sentient, jumping out of the water and on land to scare humans. They seem to get joy out of scaring them, the fish are also very good to eat and is the 1st dish recommend at the restaurant. Octopuses and sharks have also started showing up more than usual. But they aren’t a threat, they just hang and linger longer than they should.

The infrastructure is very similar to Scandinavian infrastructure, depending on which country you are from. Some countries didn’t even build at sea, they build upwards on land, away from the flooding.
