1, 6, and 13 for the get to know me asks!!
Tumblr media
1. What were your summers like as a kid?
When I was a kid, summers were always the best time of the year. I loved the sunshine and the flora that would grow in my backyard. I remembered, as a kid, wandering off into my garden and other forest-y areas in my neighborhood as if I was on some quest or adventure. I would definitely say summers as a kid were probably my favorite memories.
6. What’s your favorite outfit?
Wow, this is going to be a bit hard. Hmmmm... I think my favorite outfit is this really cute green and pink tank top that I got at Aries last summer along with pairing high waisted jeans from American Eagle and a sweater from H&M. For shoes, with that outfit, I would usually wear Bobs (knock off brand of Toms). For accessories, I would usually wear some kind of sliver necklace - either a choker, my tree of Gondor necklace, or my Evenstar replica necklace. But yeah! I think that's my favorite look/outfit that I would wear when I feel really good about myself.
13. Bright colors or neutral tones?
Both?? I think it really depends on the aesthetic goal. I really like bright colors like spring or summer and neutral tones for autumn and winter.
Thanks for these asks!

“‘Rivendell’ said Frodo. ‘Very good: I will go east, and I will make for Rivendell…’ He spoke lightly, but his heart was moved suddenly with a desire to see the house of Elrond Halfelven, and breathe the air of that deep valley where many of the Fair Folk still dwelt in peace.”

Races of the legendarium: Dwarves
“Since they were to come in the days of the power of Melkor, Aulë made the dwarves strong to endure. Therefore they are stone-hard, stubborn, fast in friendship and in enmity, and they suffer toil and hunger and hurt of body more hardily than all other speaking peoples; and they live long, far beyond the span of Men, yet not forever.”

For those who have been hearing/reading articles and posts by Tolkien fans of why they are not watching Amazon's "Rings of Power", I would highly recommend you all to watch this video. This is my last time mentioning Amazon's LOTR fanfiction show but this video was a good look from not only a fan of Tolkien but someone who previously worked a bit on Amazon's show before leaving. I highly recommend people to watch it.

How did the Lord of the Rings prequel not respect the source material if so far we basically know nothing about it? And people main complaints are about the fact that the cast is not completely made up of white people?
One word: appropriation.
The executive/producers of Rings of Power made it clear they're adapting Tolkien's work to "reflect what the world actually looks like" when the source material clearly says otherwise.  Hell, Amazon is not even trying to follow the plot of any particular Tolkien piece.
For example, this is supposed to Galadriel.
Tumblr media
Yes that Galadriel, who is incredibly powerful, but didn't put on armor in fight in any battle in the books. Galadriel's power was tied to her magic, statemanship and leadership, not her sword arm.
If the writers wanted a "warrior princess" type character they could have gone with Gondorian shieldmaidens instead of appropriating Tolkien's signature character like Galadriel into something other than what Tolkien wrote. You’re not actually writing, a Lord of the Rings story or adapting Tolkien’s work.  Amazon is taking Tolkien's name and setting, and writing their own story in it; essentially wrapping their idea in the blanket of his and hoping that it can be sold using his name and hard work.
That's appropriation.
When TV writers try to ‘do their own thing’ beyond what the original authors wrote, the first thing to look for is how closely the new writers emulate the source material. Peter Jackson’s work wasn’t a one-to-one ratio from the books to the screen, but the essence of it was there. Frodo was very much still Frodo at his core, Gandalf looked the way he was described in the books, and the setting and plot matched most of what the novels described.
Essentially, The Rings of Power is someone’s fantasy story with Tolkien’s setting and character names slapped onto it. It’s not Middle-Earth as Tolkien wrote it, it’s Tolkiens’ work as someone else wants it to be for themselves.
That’s appropriation.
There is nothing wrong with having a fantasy story and setting with elves who look black, dwarves without beards, or female elves in armor; but have the courage to put your own label on it and not take someone else’s work to sell your own.
The Witcher is a fairly good example of a show organically including more diversity than was in the source material, without ruining the plot by being respectful of the source material.
