this gorgeous tree reminded me so much of Anne’s tree she called the Snow Queen. Every time the wind blew little petals fell like snow and I had to shake off my black dress and hair before getting back into the truck! 🤍

true story I used to think Taylor Swift was singing “karma takes all my friends to the Somme” ( i still don’t hear “summit” lol) and if that doesn't tell you how big of a World War One nerd I became after reading Rilla of Ingleside I don’t know what will

“March came in that winter like the meekest and mildest of lambs, bringing days that were crisp and golden and tingling, each followed by a frosty pink twilight which gradually lost itself in an elfland of moonshine.”

“Venice -the beautiful Queen of the Adriatic. Although I've never seen it I feel about it just as Byron did—I've always loved it—it has always been to me 'a fairy city of the heart.' Perhaps I caught my love of it from Walter, who worshipped it. It was always one of his dreams to see Venice. I remember we planned once—down in Rainbow Valley one evening just before the war broke out—that some time we would go together to see it and float in a gondola through its moonlit streets.”

Ok Italy cruise is booked!! Thank you for all the help and input. It’s transatlantic!! Like the old steamers!! Very fancy!! - then Gibraltar, Spain, and Italy. Then taking a train from Civitecchia to Venice - Walter Blythe would be proud :’). My mom is coming too and I’m so happy we get to see it together!! ❤️ The deal was just toooo good to pass up- the whole cruise was the cost a plane ticket to Italy would have been.
Ok so I found SUCH a good deal on a cruise to Italy but I still want to go to Prince Edward Island too ahhh my parents are helping me pay for it as a little treat for my masters’ graduation and getting into Med school but I can go only certain dates til Med school orientation starts in June, and PEI won’t really open til late May. So I’m thinking about picking the Italy deal but I really still want to go to PEI someday!! So hard to pick!

this is like exactly how I pictured them when I first read the books as a kid and hadn't seen the movie. Absolutely gorgeous work and it just "feels" like Anne and Gil to me ♥♥♥ And this Anne of the Island quote is PERFECT bc I always feel like the later books don't get as much love
I love your work! Jw if you ever drew or draw Shirley’s parents. 😆

Gilbert drew her close to him and kissed her. Then they walked home together in the dusk, crowned king and queen in the bridal realm of love, along winding paths fringed with the sweetest flowers that ever bloomed, and over haunted meadows where winds of hope and memory blew.
From Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery
Oh absolutely I have drawn Anne and Gilbert. I love them more than any other couple in literature. This is the first I could find from an old charcoal class final and I think I gave my version of Gilbert Jonathan Crombie’s overalls from the sequel, although looking back that doesn’t make a lot of sense since I’m sure he didn’t go propose in work clothes. I added Anne’s pink enamel heart necklace to the scene for a bit of creative license. :)

one good thing about reading A Tangled Web is that I finally found an LMM character with the same name as me :))))

LMM in Rilla of Ingleside: Susan Baker and her cousin Sophia don't get along bc as kids they fought over a prayer card that said 'God is Love' (silly, ironic, easily resolvable! LMM really said 🤪🤪)
LMM in A Tangled Web: Drowned John and his cousin Jeff don't get along bc Jeff KILLED HIS DOG AND HUNG ITS BODY UP AT HIS GATE (dark, horrifying, an insane jump in feuds, an unforgivable sin)
