LIKE WHY DOES THE FULL VERSION MAKE IT 1000x MORE HEARTBREAKING?!
The last chorus had me sobbing with the way they harmonized and you could hear the pain & anguish in both of their voices. But we never got that in the music video because their “feelings never harmonized with each other”

one of my favorite things about wano is that it has a whole bunch of zoro protecting luffy bits. from their reunion all the way to the start of the raid and during their confrontation with kaido + big mom
zoro protecting luffy always has a special spot for me ngl. luffy's the strongest in the crew and he's normally the one facing the most dangerous enemies, taking on the biggest risks and such. although luffy has definitely gotten help from/been saved by other straw hats and non-crew characters before, throughout the manga zoro's been shown consistently worrying about his safety and jumping in to save him whenever it's needed. he's usually the one to notice and signal to the others when luffy's genuinely in danger too (and luffy in turn has done the same for zoro). points at thriller bark again one of zoro's most impactful moments in the story is about protecting luffy, even.
but luffy does worry about him too! he's shown reacting to zoro getting hurt the few times it happens in his presence:
plus - after zoro momentarily stops kaido and big mom's conquest of the sea (taking the brunt of it by himself/redirecting it? the panels are a bit confusing to me but otherwise luffy and the rest would've looked injured from that particular blast imo), which leaves him pretty wounded as law later points out, luffy's already angrily going after kaido

still feeling insane about this whole conversation at the end of enies lobby
it was definitely bittersweet, but it added to the whole usopp / luffy duel so much depth!
the trust in their crew needs to go both ways between the captain and his crew, for the tough decisions to be made clearly and quickly, so they can depend on each other without questioning.
the same goes for luffy whom zoro puts in his place when he needs to remind him to act as a captain to deserve their crew's full respect, (or even he would walk! argh!! this is the really good writing)
zoro didn't care for whatever reason they started it, but by the time usopp made his decision, zoro knew there would be consequences, that they couldn't just forget it!
which i'm thankful for, storywise, because, yes, usopp belongs with them, they're a crew and a family, but once this went too far, they couldn't just welcome him with open arms. (and the fact that they talked about it this long, took their time to explain how important that is for zoro, and for their crew, feels good and sets examples of the core of their group)
and luffy actually listens, thinks about zoro's words (like he did just after the duel with usopp, when he wanted nothing more than to not make any difficult calls.) and agrees.
that's what zoro's role as first mate is so important here, because he keeps their eyes on the future, on the importance what all of their crew needs. this grounding and stability, this trust in one another.
so during the strawhats slowly leaving, and usopp running after them yelling they should be glad he's joining them, both luffy and zoro say they 'don't hear anything' because none of those words are the only words they needed to hear.
and it's frustrating, i feel especially for the both of them, because they can't go back on their word or show an exception or weakness in that moment.
so thankfully after usopp finding the right words, they do hear him immediately! they were waiting for his words, for him! ( it's so good! still crying with them)
look at how zoro is happy about it!! he trusted in usopp, he knew he would come back around, and he did, because zoro knows his friends, knows their crew and who he can trust, it just takes more time in some situations.
and then they can finally be once more a crew together!

Thinking about how sometimes people wonder why zoro's not a captain himself..
And how once zoro even jokingly said that he'd become the new captain if luffy wasn't strong enough...
But then i remembered zoro's words after luffy recovered from his fight with foxy, "if i left this ship i'd have no point in being a pirate anymore" he said.
But you know what's left unsaid? "If you're not my captain anymore i'd have no point in being a pirate anymore"
In thriller bark kuma only asked for luffy's head. Only his captain's head. But zoro would rather die than lose his captain. Throwing away his ambition (shared ambition with kuina mind you), his precious swords, and his life... for luffy.
And OF COURSE thinking about that 'moment' with kaido.
Like idk but can we talk about zoro's undying loyalty to his captain? He is strong enough to lead, to become a captain himself, but he can't just walk away from luffy... that boy saved his life, and their dreams are now intertwined.
He will do anything for his captain and i know that in fics sometimes people highlight(?) on his 'obedience', but that, to a certain degree is true, because he loves to please his captain and follow his orders, i mean.. just take a look at his conversation in wano with marco.
Like ughh he is so ill, i am so ILL, and you ask me why i can't imagine zoro being with anyone else other than his beloved captain? I mean just look at him???
Reminder that they are like almost if not equally strong? especially during pre-ts era
力 = power/strength
Like literally everything about zoro screams dominance but god he just loves his captain so muchh, that it's okay to obediently listen to luffy's orders. He will follow that rubber man anywhere, that's his compass, that's his captain, his (future) KING, i will shut up-
