“Belle did the craziest thing today!”
“Oh, yeah?” Shayne prepared himself for the least crazy thing he’d ever heard.
“She did this!” Charlie raised a hand to chin level. “A little thinking pose!”
Fondness warmed Shayne’s ribcage. “That’s so cute.”
“So cute, right?!” Charlie sighed as he sat down with his glass of water. Shayne knowingly watched the smile slide from Charlie’s face; he adored his niece, but babysitting drained him more than he’d ever admit.
And then Charlie whimpered and bolted from his chair. He threw himself against the kitchen sink, body folding in half as he vigorously retched.

“I fucking know,” Shayne mumbled in response to his growling stomach.
He pulled his arms over his head and groaned. He couldn’t be doing this. If he fell apart just because he was on his own, it would break Charlie’s heart.
His tummy was sore, knotted with hunger, and even though he hadn’t done it on purpose, it was still a scary feeling. The pain eased a little as it growled again, but the sound of its hopeless clenching wasn’t exactly comforting either.
Shayne lifted his face from his pillow, sighing dramatically. “Yes, I get it. Give me a second.”

Felix’s hands sank to his sides. He gazed numbly at the potato that lay, half-sliced, on the cutting board. His head was fuzzy and stuffed up, his throat ached, and there was a steady throbbing in his temples.
“You’re supposed to be resting, boo.”
Felix turned to face Elliott. He sniffled before he attempted speaking. “I-I was hungry. A-and really fancied some chips.”
A strong hand cupped the back of Felix’s neck, and drew his face towards Elliott’s warm chest. “I’ll order you some.”
Exhausted, Felix sagged. “Thanks, darling.”

“Charlie Bear?” She leaned in close to whisper at him. The paper bucket had been emptied, banished to the floor, but the sickly-sweetness of the caramel popcorn lingered on her breath. “Sorry. My belly is really upset –”
A loud hiccup jerked her frame and she glanced sheepishly towards the strangers seated nearby. She raised a hand to her mouth, shoulders lurching forward.
Charlie gently took her arm. “Let’s go.”

Hiccups as a sign someone is feeling nauseous or burps as a sign someone is feeling nauseous?
Forcing burps relieves nausea temporarily or forcing burps makes nausea worse immediately?
Which is more likely to cause vomiting: One big, deep belch or a lot of little burps that keep your stomach unsettled?
Overfull stomach in pain or overfull stomach feeling nauseous?
Feeling like you're about to throw up because you ate too much or feeling like you're about to throw up because something isn't sitting well?
A lot of small gags from being overfull or one big retch from being overfull?

Food for thought:
A character who gets the hiccups whenever they get really hungry.
A and B are out on a walk, it’s a peaceful day and they’re chatting. A is rambling about god knows what, and B is paying attention up until A stops talking.
“Your hiccups keep interrupting me.” A complains.
B apologizes, and they continue their walk— the air between them never silent due to the nature surrounding them, and B’s god damn hiccups… right until their stomach growls.
A turns and looks at them.
“You’re under attack over there, huh?”
