I love Bella as a character. She’s completely human and feels ugly. She’s attractive, but she doesn’t like the attention from the boys. From her perspective, these boys only want sex from her. But Edward has proven that he loves her more than he loves having sex and giving in to his desires. That was so powerful to me as a teenager.
one of stephenies strengths as a writer is making bella as human as she is! it’s a large part of why i think the first book is so enrapturing

People are taking about how it helps with pacing but honestly it helps so much with character building as well. Like I know its a common belief that bella is bland af but these scenes made me connect with her and showed me her personality when uninfluenced by others
One of the big criticisms people had of the books is that they have a lot of boring filler of Bella just hanging out in her home, thinking about Edward, googling stuff, eating breakfast, reading, etc., but I liked that stuff. I like just being with the character in her own time
