Yeah they really did. all of those Tory politicians going "ough... the guillotine... it is so barbaric... & they keep arresting people... there's no freedom of the press..." is particularly incredibly audacious because tbh given their actions I think I would rather live through the entirety of the French Revolution multiple times before I'd want to live anywhere in the British Isles in the 1790s
Damn... The British had a lot of nerve to talk about the French revolution huh

wut did helena bonham carter do
defended johnny depp repeatedly and said amber heard jumped on a 'bandwagon' and wanted to be the 'poster girl' for DA victimhood. said johnny depp is 'completely vindicated' based on that trial 😂 because... she objectively isnt very intelligent despite all that private london education. and i dont follow the JKR theatrics but also misrepresents and ironically justifies the woman's bigotry with 'shes entitled to her opinions if she has experienced abuse' lol
shes always been a rat.
and lest we forget how kathy burke, my loveeee, my linda la hughes, my hero called it in the 90s

First conflict: The American Revolution, which actually ended well for the rebels. According to some quick research, around 25,000 Americans died in active service during the war, including deaths from disease etc, and the British record around 24,000 dying on their side, both within the span of seven years. While technically Prime Minister Lord North caused a lot of the issues leading to the war, many of G3's Prime Ministers before Pitt the Younger were entirely his puppets, so most of Lord North's policies were pretty much G3's fault.
Second conflict: the 1798 Society of the United Irishmen rebellion and the 1803 Robert Emmet's rebellion, which I have grouped together because there was some fighting in between the two as well. The figure I've seen most cited for the total death toll in 1798 alone is somewhere around 30,000, but the highest estimate is around 70,000. There were a lot of reasons for this happening but a big one was the fact that full Catholic Emancipation, allowing Catholics to hold public office and have full rights, kept not happening. Prime Minister William Pitt supported it happening, Opposition leaders Charles James Fox and Edmund Burke supported it happening, radical groups such as the SCI and LCS supported it happening, the militant Irish Volunteers supported it happening, but... it didn't! Due to our friend (/s) George iii's hatred of Catholics, he kept blocking it, increasing sectarian tensions and making even Irish Protestants angry about it.
New human rights violations: This one was mostly in Ireland. British soldiers there invented pitch-capping, which was like a worse version of tarring and feathering where the victim would have a paper hat glued to their head with hot pitch, then set on fire; half-hanging, which was where the victim would be partially hanged on a frame until they gave information; also there was a man who went around stirring his drinks with peoples' fingers, apparently. Bad show overall.
Also, did George iii take responsibility for either of these? lol. lmao. I wish. No, instead he sacked Lord North, creating a power struggle that badly messed up British politics for several years, and he sent a horrible dreadful person called General Lake to start a campaign of terror against the Irish to suppress them, and when Pitt tried to pass Catholic Emancipation as part of the 1801 act of union, G3 sacked him too, also badly messing up British politics for several years. And then it took until after his death for Catholic Emancipation to happen. Awesome job as king, George iii 👍
The way that George iii managed to singlehandedly fuck up so badly that not one but two groups of his colonists violently revolted against him beginning not one but two several years long conflicts where his troops without exaggeration invented new human rights violations that both ended in tens of thousands dead on both sides

i genuinely think that amongst all fandom discourse the 'you can enjoy a character without endorsing their actions' is the most inane stupid and frankly annoying and i seethe with rage whenever i see or hear it. we are in 2022 for fuck's sake. we have had the written word for 5000 years and oral epics for as long as humanity has existed. we should be above basic text comprehension by now

May have made a slight error with this post tbh by saying politicians because the fact that the actual king of the United Kingdom was also very vocally of this opinion definitely adds to the ridiculousness of the entire situation
Also to continue somewhat with my last post some of the later anti-frev sentiments in the British Isles that were completely unconnected with a hypothetical girlboss Marie Antoinette are just balls to the walls insane because all of the politicians touting them about had to go through like 10 levels of mental gymnastics to be able to say "no the Catholic church is INCREDIBLE, unparalleled, paragon of virtue, love em, this is why the revolutionaries are evil" and then in the next sentence "and the reason Jacobinism here must be stamped out is because British radicals are all supportive of those FUCKING FENIANS, this why the revolutionaries are evil." like babe which is it you cannot have it both ways

@frevandrest, @tierseta, and @saint-jussy, I got into a loooong discussion, on Tumblr, of how to find a historical romance that is not rife with Thermidorian propaganda. You can see my rant, and the other Redditor’s response and questions. How do I respond sensibly? They have requested a lot of information, and I’m not sure how to respond in a way that’s sensible and compact.

Why do people think Marie Antoinette legit did nothing but sit around and look pretty and "wasn't told anything about the Revolution" until it suddenly hit her in the face? They really acting like she wasn't running around contacting everyone she could to make secret arrangements to thwart the revolution?? IMO it's a disservice to take agency away from her. She DID act with it...just against the people instead of for the reforms they wanted. Like sorry that this doesn't fit with the Poor Rich Meow Meow fantasy but she wasn't completely clueless and innocent, lol
