I once saw my teachers praying salah in the dark, and I didn’t understand why. Then i tried it for myself, and subhanaAllah, it reminded me how dark my grave will be. It reminded me of how dark the day of judgement will be and my salah has never been the same since then.
How beautiful, that i pour my heart out on earth and it is heard in the Heavens by al-Wadud, the Source of all love. The One, who waits to hear from you, yet He knows what you ask Him before you ask Him. The One who is ready to embrace and comfort you when your heart is torn. The One who is eager to run to you even if you take a step towards Him.
I have learnt that Allah will always answer our du’as — sometimes not exactly how we would like it, but always better than we ever imagined. His answers are perfect and comes at the most perfect time; never a second too late nor too early. So be persistent in making du’a and have full faith that Allah is listening.
Du’a is the rope of hope we hold on to whenever we are in utter desperation. Don’t wait to turn back to Him. Even if you haven’t prayed in a long time, even if you feel distant from Him, even if you’ve been engaging in sins; with Allah, all it takes is one sajdah or a sincere du’a and you will fall right back home.
There’s so much depth in the arabic language that it helps you to understand the Qur’an and ahadith so beautifully. Take the hadith,
الدِّيْنُ النَّصِيْحَةُ
for example. It’s loosely translated as, “The religion is advising.” But the word نصيحة can also mean Ikhlaas and love.
Ikhlaas, sincerity, is the life of every act of ‘ibadah because we should do ‘ibadah wholeheartedly for Allah. How beautiful that we should also give naseehah sincerely, wholeheartedly and with utmost love for a person, wanting nothing but goodness for them.
There’s a reason why you are here. Allah gathered all the elements of the universe so that you could be in this world. Allah chose you. You are relevant, you are important, you are valued. So keep going until the day comes that you meet Him, well pleased and well-pleasing to Him.
Nothing in this world can bring comfort to the heart and a sense of inner peace more than reciting the Qur’an. The Qur’an comes to save you every time you feel sad, lost and confused.
Sheikh Bilal Assad mentioned how 3 days after his son and brother had passed away, he found himself standing on the edge of a flat roof of a house. It was the same roof he had spent the last time with his son, the night before he passed away.
He thought, “Why am i not with them? Why am i still living? I should be with them.”
At that moment, subhanaAllah, the Qur’an started being recited from the mosque speakers. And you know what the first verse was?
