so someone asked me about the speech bubbles I use for my stray stories/stray shorts stuff, so I figured I might as well toss them up in case someone might find them useful idk
and since I was looking into it anyway, I went and dug around the textures a bit and grabbed some of the source elements from there too in case anyone wants any of them; while I do see plenty of the big speech bubbles around, a lot of them seem to be pre-assembled I figured maybe someone'd like the individual elements or something.

It is still absolutely wild to me that Sharlayan gets the pass it does in the narrative. Especially when like, their obvious narrative counterpart would be Garlemald.
Everyone is welcome as long as you abandon your home culture and become Sharlayan
Only certain families are allowed to live in the estates, the ones who can trace back to the First Landing after the calamity.
Fully planned on leaving most of the world behind when the Final Days hit early. The only people they bothered to help was Thavnair and that was AFTER the Scions yelled at them for their inaction
Regularly sent death squads after people who took Sharlayan knowledge out of Sharlayan and taught it to people. Not state secrets. Regular ass scholarly knowledge. People died over Ishguard learning how to be Astrologians.
Covered up wildly unethical experiments that were on the level of Garlean Human Experimentation and refused to investigate or take reports seriously until the WOL got involved.
Why the hell are they the good guys? Why are they the ones who the narrative treats as "Doing the right thing"? Why does Sharlayan get to have a pass about their failings as a society and we're expected to just ignore everything they did. Like if you have a lvl 80 AST during the 6.0 MSQ there's no extra dialog for you in Sharlayan. But because they're isolationists it's fine don't worry about it you won't find the bodies :)

A small detail about the Word of the Mother (FFXIV post-Heavensward spoilers)
So I've been thinking a lot about Minfilia's position as the Word of the Mother (as of the end of HW) - her place in the narrative and also what kind of role the character plays.
One example of a similar character that came to mind was the Metatron from Kevin Smith's Dogma - an angel that acts as the Voice of God, one who dictates holy will.
So I tugged on this thread through the "Voice of God" Wikipedia page (because I can't check the FFXIV wikis bc spoilers lol) and found this quote:
In rabbinic Judaism, such a voice was known as a bat kol (Hebrew: בַּת קוֹל baṯ qōl, literally "daughter of voice"),
Despite being identified with the Holy Spirit or even with God, the bat kol differed essentially from prophecy. The Holy Spirit rested upon the prophets, and the conversations between them were personal and intimate; while those that heard the bat kol had no relation whatever to the Holy Spirit.
which raised my eyebrows because I know a little Latin, and sure enough:
Maybe unconnected, maybe intentional. Still, interesting to me.
