shitty majoring in gender and sexuality focused on masculinity studies and team sports which is super interesting and cool (and a space where it can actually be refreshing to have male voices) and it may be tempting to read the double major in poli sci as focusing on gender equality and lgbt rights but there's a world where he focused on cold war tensions and how the soviet union and the united states used sports as an arena for competition, sports as an arena of political protest and defining piece of the nation state in itself, also the exploitation of athletes across racial gender and class divisions in college and in professional leagues

i really want to get into watching/actually understanding hockey after reading omgcp but am not sure how to start! do you have any recommendations for good ways to go about getting into it?
When it comes to getting into watching hockey the best way to do it is to just start watching. Bilasport is a good free stream website if you don't have access to cable. Listen to the broadcasts and try to follow the games, which should help. If you have a friend who's into hockey watching a game with them so you can questions is also a good idea.
In terms of actually understanding hockey/sport culture, I have some book/article recommendations that I'll drop here.

i am begging non-hockey fans of omgcp to read like just one article on the homophobic and masculine fraternalism of hockey culture. it's like just sometimes dabbling in the aesthetic of hockey without doing the work of understanding how the culture is problematic leads to some really, really inappropriate comments.
