You deserve nourishment and rest, no matter what.”] I know some of you can treat food and sleep like a low priority, especially when things get busy or stressful. Please remember to eat, go to bed, and drink enough water. They are important things that you need, not things you have to earn. If you haven’t eaten, drunk water, or are putting off going to sleep, let this be a reminder for you to do those things right now. (Image credit to Laurel Canty-Ehrlich)

Cranquis Mail: "Learning when feeling bad"
@thealexanity submitted:
Not sure if you find it as medical question or something (but hey, I have doc and I have therapist, and I trust them both, so it’s not “second opinion” thing). I’m asking you mostly becouse you needed to study lots of stuff in the med school, not becouse you are a doctor. Probably you also had to study even if not feeling well. So maybe you have some tips or something.
I am depressed now (not suicidal, not desperate, just… if breathing was depending on my motivation, I would be in ICU - I feel so hopeless with no reason, so weak… It was hard to get my ass and quick up psych appointment when, hey, I don’t feel so dramatic, it used to be dramatic… now it’s not, thanks, lamotrigine.) AND MY CONCETRATION IS PURE CRAP.
I’m studying animal science, and I mostly love it. But now every exercise sounds like “You have 10 apples and 11 ice cubes, how many pancakes will fit on the roof?” (Answer” purple becouse aliens don’t wear hats” :P) I have no idea how to get over this, how to learn, when I can’t focus and damn understand. Had you ever had to study when having any kind of condition making it damn hard? Had you found an way to actually understand something, not only spend some time staring at your textbook?
Best wishes and sorry if I made some grammar mistakes- English is not my first language.
Ok, so obviously the standard obviously-depressed-person advice/disclaimer applies here: be sure to honestly update your psychiatrist with how you’re feeling and how the meds/counseling/etc are (or are not) helping you fight this.
But you’re not asking for advice on handling your depression (exactly) — rather, “How do I continue functioning as a student in the face of depression, anxiety, illness, or whatever else life has thrown up onto my shoes today?”
Well friend, obviously each situation will be different and bring unique challenges, but here’s the techniques that worked for me Back in the Day… *cue rippling harp “dream sequence” music*
