Once mated, could you unmate? If so? How?
Hello, yes you can unmate. The details of how depend on the writer really.
Traditionally, a mate was a one time thing; it couldn’t be undone. This was a life partner that was being chosen and that wasn’t something that could change later. The only reason a mating could be undone was through death, which in most AUs would leave some lingering scent/pain in the partner that was still living.
In some more non-traditional AUs, a mating bite specifically was transient. The bite needed to be redone every so often to continue the bond. This meant the bond could slowly dissipate either by accident or my choice. When the bond disappeared altogether, sometimes there would be a lingering feeling of missing something and sometimes there would be no difference from before the mating even took place.
In between the two lines of thoughts, there is the idea that you can undo a mating that is no longer wanted but at a price. The price could range from surgical modification to the threat of death. In some AUs, this is seen as taboo and something only the mentally unsound do. This type of unbonding is relatively rare because it involved som non-con because one party is normally forced to do something in these situations.

Have any omega/beta headcanons?
Do I?? This is a joke right?
Allow me to elaborate.
Historical!AU: Omega/Beta couples have become more common as the world became more global. With more cultures in contact, it became easier to see new ways of life. For A and B, it was eye opening. They had been friends for years, partners at the reading club, and maids of honor at their unfortunate weddings. For a while after B’s partner passed, it felt taboo to be seen away from each other. And then they meet C and D, a couple from (insert random ass country name here). They had never met people as happy and joyous as C and D. And the key to that happiness? A friendship that was kindled into something more.
CoffeeShop!AU: A worked at the cutest coffee shop in (insert college town here). And while most of the clientele were looking for a quiet place to study, occasionally an ill-advised Alpha would come in. They would smell that calm atmosphere and something would snap into place in their brain; there needed to be something more aggressive in this place, something more wild. And while A would think the massive string of pearls hanging in the back would show how wild this place could be, they could fend if the Alphas that spoke to loudly or asked to harshly where extra tables were (all the tables are visible from the counter, there are no extras). A was quite good at this and only had one encounter that they couldn’t handle. But that one encounter was entirely handled by a regular omega client, B. And boy to B have some words to say to the poor, sorry soul that walked in, needing to be humbled.
Fantasy!AU: When fire lights up the sky, A knows to run under ground. They were born with the Omegan ability for empathy, something this cruel battered world had no need for. A had lived long enough to know they needed to hide those abilities, it would help their life last longer. And they were successful, until B fell from the sky, right next to their slain dragan. B shouldn’t have been able to fly a dragan, only those with an Alpha’s authority could ever be equals to the wild beasts of the sky. But here B was, a Beta with mild intentions and deadly eyes ready to take on this godforsaken world.
Space!AU: Floating through zero-G could give you a headache after a while, that’s what B always told A. When they were kids, B always joked that A liked the old stories of space travel too much, the stories of the first moon landing, the first expansion of the ISS which now sat at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. A always dreamed of the wonder space used to have, the mystery. B was the only person they know that traveled further than Satan and they did on a dare. A may have been the one to produce the flight plan but B was the one able to do it. B, the only Omega this side of the Atlantic Ocean, was blue to fly to Neptune and back. A was going to make sure they both got to stay in the stars.
((I’m running on like three hours of sleep, these probably don’t make any sense but oh fukin well))

How does imprinting work? Is it different from scenting?
Hello! Short answer: imprinting is like a step below soulmates.
Imprinting is sort of like soulmates on it happens after getting to know a partner or in dire situations. For example, an imprint can occur after a traumatic situation and, forevermore, those involved with the imprint are connected. It can be, depending on the AU, something very deeply connecting (I’m talkin’ like read each others minds or emotions). This is similar to some soulmate!AUs where the soulmates are very deeply connected. The difference between the two is there is normally an event that causes the imprinting to occur; soulmates are generally born and cursed (for lack of a better work) to find one another.
Scenting is a very generalized term for one party leaving their own scent one another party. In some fics I have read, they use the term “imprinting scent” as a form of their courting process. This isn’t to be confused with imprinting that is a separate process. Scenting can be used for an imprint but it isn’t necessary. Scenting can be something very common between friends and family or something intimate between partners. It all depends on the context!

I sadly don't see too much Beta love. Most brush them off as a background character. And I've even read some where they're just known to be disliked and called evil. Which sucks, after taking multiple quizzes, and getting beta all the time. Do you have any love to share for this neglected dynamic? 💕
Hello! Yes I have tons of thoughts about Betas!
I do think Betas get tossed to the side in many fics and it is a disservice. Betas are the middle ground, the valley between mountains, the single aunt with no kids who gives the best Christmas gifts. Betas can be many things (included evil if that’s what the writer wants).
In a very simplistic view, Betas are not ruled by instincts and therefore have none. Personally, this is a reductive view on an integral part of a vastly diverse AU. Betas, unlike their two partners in crime, have a choice when it comes to their mating patterns. They are not on a cyclical pattern doomed to repeat itself. This allows so much more freedom for a writer.
One of my favorite HCs I rarely see is what I would term “fluid Betas.” This is not to be confused with the trope of changing subgenders completely. In this small portion of the ABO universe, Betas are the calmer of the dynamics but float between Omegas and Alphas and fill the gaps. This can mean that in an Alpha dominated workforce, they may placate more often. Or if they are in an Omega dominated friend group, they might be the one to pay for the meals (to support yakno).
I also enjoy the stories where Betas are more common than Alphas/Omegas simply because it is biologically exhausting to go through mating/heat cycles. For this reason you may see subgenders in general being referred to as a “relic of the past” or an “unfortunate medical marvel.”

Hello There!
It’s been literally 2 years since my last post and I am now hoping to be more on top of this blog. My life as turn on its head but I’m at a much better place now (promise). I have much more time to work out my writers block! This blog had been a way for me to work through creative slumps in the past and I know it has been very helpful to a lot of others so I will try my best to revive it. I have just a sprinkle of creative energy at the moment and I will to my best to fan the flames of it.
I have asks from years and years ago that I will try to answer, slowly, to not overwhelm myself. And I will slowly answer the new ones as well! I apologize for being AWOL for years but I will try my best to come back, s l o w l y.
Thank you for all the continued asks that you all have, they are very thought provoking (I enjoy thinking about them immensely).

Minor headcanon…I think that most Omegas have something called a Comfort Object that they absolutely can not nest without. These can vary from something like a childhood toy such as a teddy bear to an item of clothing associated with a protective relative, such as a scarf.
Oh absolutely!
The point of a nest is comfort and if there is something that gives the omega the best comfort possible, it obviously belongs there. The easiest thing to think about is if the omega has a good relationship with their parents, they might have items from their parents to replicate those comforting feelings they had from childhood. It can also be extended to found families and the omega may have items from their pack that bring them comfort like jackets or hoodies they’ve stolen.

Question, do you subscribe to the headcanon that subgenders are assigned at birth or discovered at puberty? I’ve seen it both ways so I’m curious.
The way that I see it is they are assigned at birth but become prominent as the individual ages. I know that's kind of underwhelming but it fits better into my little pea brain when a person is born as one thing and grows into it rather than being a giant question mark. Everyone always speculates in AUs where subgender isn’t assigned at birth anyway so why not give the speculations some ground to stand on. It also makes a little more sense to me for people to grow into their subgender throughout their life so they don’t get this massive surprise at 16-18yo. There are always going to be the people who were told wrong or information was withheld but it’s a little more palatable for me to have it be something known at least to some degree of certainty.

I was wondering if you had some ideas for slurs to be used for non trad dynamic like beta/omega or beta/alpha?
Its alright if your aren't comfortable with this
Hello. I don’t think I would say there needs to be more slurs in the world but the only ones I can think of are the use of subgenders exclusively to refer to an individual. I know this sounds kind of basic but in reality, the slurs that we have in real life are enough. And most of them could fit into what you’re writing if that is what you are looking for. Bigoted people are surprisingly creative in their use of the English language to refer to “other.”

Hello!
I'm sorry if this sounds slightly weird,
Me and a few friends We're taking about ABO and we did a funny ha ha on " If You were part of the ABO what would you be" And I was clueless till a friend told me I would be a Theta,
From my understanding There really isn't alot about Thetas and We get alot of hate for it, my Friend is considered an Alpha in our ABO and he doesn't know much about Thetas either,
I asked Someone on tumblr about Thetas and I got alot of negative comments and mean responses, I was wondering if you have any theta information can you kinda clear it up for me? Please and thank you
Hello!
I’m probably not the best person to ask. I guess I qualify as a traditionalist (?) in the omegaverse world because I really only use alpha/beta/omega subgenders in any work I do. But I will try my best to answer!
A while ago I had looked into the newer subgenders for another ask and I think it might be helpful to bring up some of that info. The gender hierarchy that I’ve been able to find goes as follows: Alpha, Epsilon, Beta/Delta, Iota, and Omega. Outside of that, there are Zetas which are truly neutral, and Thetas that are similar to Iotas but seem to have a stronger scent. I’m not entirely sure where the negativity comes into play but it seems to me that Thetas are like another bridge between Omega and Beta. I would say, just for the sake of my barely held together hierarchical organization, that a Theta would be closer to beta than Omega because an Iota seems to share heat characteristics with Omegas but a Theta only shares scent characteristics.
So the update: Alpha, Epsilon, Beta, Delta, Theta, Iota, and Omega
Here is a post that kind of goes a little more in-depth into the newer subgenders: https://aboheadcannonsandmore.tumblr.com/post/157928409932/i-have-a-question-since-you-seem-to-know-about-the

could we get some more really cute alpha and omega courting headcannons, but like they are in pre school and the teachers are like no you can’t do that your only 4 lol
Hello! Platonic bonding or courting is honestly an underappreciated art. I normally think of things with children as being platonic or soulmate type of bonds just because they do not have an understanding of the world around them to know the context of courting. But anyway, here are a few:
Gifting: Obviously, kids give out little gifts to their friends but this is noticeable favoritism. After class, they would exchange artwork or leaves that were found during recess. It is rather obvious that something was different when the exchange became a back and forth. The alpha would give one of his lunchtime snacks to the omega one day and the next the omega would bring an extra snack just to share. It became so bad that other children started to feel excluded and the parents needed to get involved. But nothing really slowed down the giving nature of the relationship.
Scents: it’s common for pack members to scent each other before leaving so that everyone can know who belongs where. Children don’t have a strong scent until they present so often family members or pack members would scent a child before they left alone somewhere. But when the alpha came home one day smelling of a completely different pack, the parents were obviously confused. The omega had mimicked what their family does to them in the morning before leaving school; even if they didn’t have a strong scent, their family did and that is what rubbed off onto the alpha. Needless to say, the family outrage did lead to a parent-teacher conference that left everyone confused.
Protecting: Playground bullies were never a good sign, even in preschoolers but they did exist. And normally the teachers were able to catch the adorable posturing before anything more occurred, but today it happened a little too fast to be interrupted. The crime scene was the end of the slide, the culprit was an alpha know to not know where other people were around him. They went down the slide without checking to make sure the omega had gotten out safely. Unfortunately for them, the alpha was waiting for the omega to get out at the bottom and witnessed the entire happening of the culprit running into the omega and landing on top of said omega, crushing them just enough to be scary. The screams and growls that happened after were inevitable and the teachers had to physically pull the two alphas away while the omega traveled behind them asking if their alpha friend was ok. It was all fun and games until the omega ran up to their alpha saying how happy they were to have the alpha looking out for them.

okay so i’m reading all the young dudes and remus is like obsessed with sirius’s wrists in this one chapter and i know that there’s like a scent gland there but are you able to explain a little more about the scent gland and why remus would be so drawn to it?
btw remus is a werewolf and sirius isn’t if you’re not aware lolll
Hello! (sorry, I’m not totally up to date with HP tropes but I’ll try my best)
One of the big things in most omegaverse stories is scents, specifically when talking about mating. Traditionally, you see mating marks or bites or whatever you want to call them on the scent gland on the neck as a sign of the possession of one’s scent by another (or the sharing of one scent between mates). There was a post I had found a long time ago that kind of explain the interaction of scent glands with erogenous zones which I cannot find so I’ll explain. Erogenous zones are the most sensitive parts of a body and in omegaverse, these areas directly line up with where someone’s scent is strongest. So that would be neck, wrists, armpits, and downstairs (I’m not getting deleted today). Scent is obviously an integral part of omegaverse and even more so in werewolf!AUs like the one you're describing because it is another layer of non-verbal communication, like body posture or facial expressions. It's kind of hard to give a summary of scents but it's an identifier of whose friend/pack and who is foe.
The wrist in particular is seen as a really accessible scent gland. It’s really mobile, it’s easy to find and use, and it’s the most accessible one unless you are intimate/close to the person. I’m not entirely sure of the context but I would assume that, at the bare minimum, Remus would like to mix his scent with Sirius even if he isn’t a werewolf because that's what he would do with pack/friends.

hello!!! I found your blog while researching and I really love how informative your hcs are, I had fun reading them!!
I'm kinda writing an omegaverse au and I saw somewhere that omegaverse is a subtrope (?) of yaoi. I recently fell in the omegaverse hole (and can't get out) and I was having a tough time recently that I just decided to wrote an omegaverse au as some kinds of a self-soothing way to make me process things. It became so self-fulfilling that I think, if I ever publish it I might get scorned? I think because most omegaverse aus are centered around two males and I made it so like the typical alpha male and omega female (and there are still supporting characters that are both males) but they're really the ones moving the story. I'm just really worried that it wouldn't be supported as such? I'm so sorry for the vagueness of this ask 😥 Have a great day!! ❤
Hello!
To answer the first part of your question, omegaverse is a pretty big subtrope of yoai but it originally was a fanfiction trope within the Supernatural fandom. That 100% doesn’t change the fact that anyone can write it; omegaverse is for anyone to write and enjoy no matter where it is most popular at the moment.
Secondly, the primary gender of the individuals in your story doesn’t particularly matter. The focus of ABO is more on the interactions of subgenders than the binary that we see in reality. Yes, it is often used as an allegory for queer gender expression due to the nature of having more than 2 genders but that doesn’t diminish any relationship a writer can come up with. Basically, it can be anything you want it to be!
Writing is meant to be completely up to the author’s imagination. So, whatever you feel is right, is right! There will always be interested readers.

Omegaverse Worldbuilding Starter Kit
Welcome to my beginner’s guide to writing Omegaverse! Here are some questions you can ask yourself while worldbuilding, but they are not all necessary! This is a pretty detailed guide, so pick and choose what applies to your omegaverse!
The first step I would recommend is doing some research! Look up basic guides. I put some links in this starter kit for examples and references. Now that you know a few things and are familiar with some common terms, you can start expanding and making it your own!
The Basics
How are omegas treated?
This is probably the most important question on the list.  Omegas are usually at the center of worldbuilding for omegaverse, even if writers do it unconsciously, so how omegas are treated often shapes all of society. Of course, this is not set in stone. If you want an alpha-shaped or beta-shaped society, go for it. Keep this in mind as you worldbuild.
What are some things you want to include in your omegaverse?
What are things that are not acceptable in your omegaverse?
Here is an example post of things I will never support (as a normal part of life) in omegaverse.
Do you want your omegaverse to be more non-traditional or traditional?
What’s the difference?
What is your favorite thing about omegaverse?
Is your omegaverse NSFW heavy?
Are you more focused on the NSFW or SFW aspects?
What time period is your omegaverse set in?
Is your omegaverse based more on romance or platonic relationships?
When worldbuilding, I tend to be more invested in platonic relationships than romantic ones, so I have a lot more headcanons revolving around pack dynamics than mate headcanons.
Does your omegaverse have any special features? True Mates? Pack Bonds (mental links that packmates can feel and express emotion through)? Animal Shifters?
Who’s on top? What does the hierarchy look like?
For example, many people set their hierarchies either as Alphas on top or everyone as equal.
How much power do the dynamics have over each other?
For example, can Alphas control Omegas at will? This also ties into hierarchy.
What is the history of your omegaverse?
What is considered r*pe and consent?
Is there a difference between sex and dynamic?
Is primary gender (male, female, other) different from alpha, beta, omega or are they one in the same?
What does submission and domination look like? How does it impact day to day life?
Relationships
Is polyamory a part of your omegaverse? How are polyamorous relationships viewed?
Non-traditional pairings? Which pairings are looked down upon, if any?
For example, Beta x Alpha or Beta x Omega relationships are sometimes looked down upon in more traditional omegaverse set ups.
How do people become mates? Is there a mating bite? A ceremony? Do they spend a mating cycle together?
Are there mating traditions such as giving your partner a collar?
What does courting/dating behavior look like? Is it strict or more relaxed?
Do the packs of the parties involved need to consent to the courting beforehand? Is it arranged? Does it reflect modern society dating? Are interactions between parties supervised?
Society
What are problems in society specific to omegaverse?
In my omegaverse, the Omegas’ Rights Movement is a very large and pressing issue.
What is socially acceptable? What is not?
Disciplining mates in public? Forcing submission? Consent before heats?
How are education and jobs impacted by dynamic?
Can everyone work? Are there limits to what jobs people can hold?
What is considered appropriate and inappropriate behavior around strangers? Friends? Mates? Pack?
What is typical fashion of each dynamic, does it differ based on dynamic?
For example, Omegas may wear collars.
How do people rebel against stereotypes? What are the consequences?
How does presenting change social life?
How do people of the same dynamic interact with each other?
For example, sometimes, Omegas are best friends and need omega socialization, other times they hate each other and view each other as competition.
How is each dynamic treated in the workplace? Hospital? Restaurants?
How do people react if they don’t present as the secondary gender they thought they would be/wanted to be?
How are mating cycles viewed?
Opportunity to breed and have pups? Disgraceful and disgusting? Excuse for sex?
Health and Biology
How is health different (mental and physical)?
What medication is available?
Suppressants? Is there a side effect of taking suppressants or other medication?
Are there drugs that can send people into heat (often used at date r*pe drugs)?
How do scent glands work?
Anatomy in general?
Anatomy of male omegas and female alphas?
What are the ratios of the dynamics? Which is the most common?
A lot of omegaverses set Betas as the most common dynamic. Others put all of them as equal, or omegas as extremely rare, ect.
How do disabilities and mental health play into the dynamics and your omegaverse?
For example, here are my posts about gender dysphoria and ADHD in omegaverse.
How is trangender defined in your omegaverse? Is it even a part of your omegaverse? How is it viewed? Is it socially acceptable? What medications are available?
What about asexuality and aromanticism?
Are all heats and ruts sexual?
Here are some different types of heats and ruts.
How are mating cycles handled?
Who can help with mating cycles? What are people given/what do they do to help with mating cycles? For example, nests, pack’s clothes, etc.
Can betas experience mating cycles? If so, what are the conditions?
When do people present? Do they know their secondary gender from birth or find out later?
Who can get pregnant? Are babies delivered differently based on who is birthing them?
This would be dependent on anatomy.
Do Alphas have an Alpha Voice they can use to control others and make them submit? Who does the voice work on?
Packs
What defines a pack?
Are packs strictly blood-related? Are some packs blood-related and others not?
How are packs formed?
Can anyone become a pack leader?
How large are packs?
How are pack leaders chosen?
What does pack hierarchy look like?
What are roles in a pack?
Who are the most important members of the pack? The most protected? The most valued?
Can people be packless? Are there any side effects if they are?
Secondary Gender/Dynamics
What are the defining factors of each dynamic? Instincts? Scents? Other?
How do the dynamics differ?
What are the stereotypes of the dynamics in your omegaverse? Which are true, which are not?
Some Alpha and Omega stereotypes
What determines secondary gender? Genetics? Fate? Necessity based on pack?
Why and when do omegas nest? Do they only nest when they need comfort or are going into heat? Do they always have a nest?
Can alphas and betas nest or do something similar?
Do you include sub-genders/rare dynamics?
Here’s a post by @aboheadcannonsandmore which explains some rare dynamics.
Do omegas have rights?
Are omegas treated like their own people or viewed as property? Can omegas own things such as land? Do omegas need a legal guardian?
What role do betas fill?
Is there a double standard for Male Omegas and Female Alphas?
For example, female alphas are supposed to be strong and proper alphas but are also criticized if they are not feminine enough.
How does each dynamic soothe themselves and others? How do they react to dangerous situations?
There are a lot of things I didn’t address here, but worldbuilding is supposed to be fun and creative! Make it your own and don’t be afraid to be adventurous!
Happy writing!

I’m reading a fic where the alpha sleeps in a nest. I’m having trouble picturing it, can you help please?
I think this depends on the context. Nesting, in general, is used for comfort. Sometimes in times of stress/anxiety as a way to soothe, sometimes in order to comfort others/pack, and a nest can be a persistent thing that offers comfort no matter the situation. It’s normally something omegas do but there is nothing stopping a beta or alpha from doing the same thing.
Traditionally, an omega makes a nest and their mate/significant other can be invited in the nest. This can be anything from a bed to an actual nest like what a cat might make. I normally write modern AUs so what I imagine when writing is a bed with a lot of blankets, pillows, and plushies that provide comfort (this can also extend to clothing items of mates that also give the same feeling).
Now, an alpha nest would have the same purpose - comfort - but may not be as normalized or organized as an omega nest. I’m not entirely sure what the fic context is but the best I can give you is it's probably a bunch of comfort items that are thrown together in a way the puts the alpha at ease. They’re probably very protective of the space because it's the biggest comfort in their life. It’s not necessarily something messy, although it could be depending on the situation.
I hope this helps a little!

Suprise headcanon : On female alphas ( inspired by actual wolf packs) they can actually have kids with male alphas but since they hear in society about the pain of childbirth they usually avoid it ( since they have the option to have kids without carrying). If they don't bond with a fellow alpha they form friendship bond with one that is second oly to the mate bond. They would have the most epic of bromances. Party planning, godparenting, etc. and form a pack through that. Sorry for the attack!
Ok, this is adorable. I’m always down for a good bromance! And I’m always a sucker for a good pack life and I can totally get behind two childhood alpha friends just tackling the world together.

I have a question. more like I kind of want answers. What would happen if a Theta and Alpha have a Blood bond/ soul bond? would it be bad for both parties or?
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m under the assumption that a blood bond is different from a soul bond. My understanding is that a soul bond is positive but a blood bond is negative; basically that these are two opposites. Now, I could be completely wrong in which case, ignore me I guess.
Now, I’m still not very versed in Thetas and how they fit into relationships with others. But given that a blood bond is normally a forced one, at least one party will be negatively affected. I tend to think of it as a possessive bond that is made for control without regard to the party being claimed. I really have no idea if this would more negatively affect the Theta or the Alpha but that might be up to you to explore!

Hi! How would an alpha feel towards the pups of their mated omega? (they marked an omega that already has children/not his pups)
Hello! I would assume that if the alpha is choosing to mark/mate an omega, they know and are familiar with the children. It would probably get those family instincts kicked in rather quickly. I think it would be rather cute to see how the kids react to the alpha trying to get close to their omega parent.
In order for the omega to feel best about the alpha, it would make sense that the pups would need to like the alpha. The omega is probably used to being their only authority figure and the alpha would need to get used to that dynamic. I tend to think that pups change the scent of their parents no matter their dynamic. So that alpha might also notice their scent change the more comfortable they are with the little family.
