[ Dearest Sister ]
"I am not getting wrinkles!” Katarina immediately huffed, perfectly offended though she knew that now, at her age, no doubt such things would begin to surface. Years of stress, years of the elements and simply the fact that she was barely considered in her prime dictated such things.. Katarina told herself she cared very little for such petty things, another part of her was taken aback by the idea of aging at all.
But now was not the time for such thoughts and Katarina pushed them far from her mind with a heavy sigh to dwell instead on her sisters words.
"You understand the reasoning behind my suspicions I assume," she mused, tone significantly lighter despite the heavy thoughts bouncing within her skull. "My job, the people I must associate with… The things between us. Most would hold my shortcomings against me and yet you fail to… It just… It seems too easy Cass."
Emerald shifted to meet a shade of green similar but brighter than her own. Those eyes that peered back at her… They spoke of a plea where words failed. It was within that moment that Katarina noted the delicacy of claws, the words twisted to sound flippant however reserved… They were almost musical with her sisters glee and the eldest of the two felt a twinge of guilt.
"I am s-… I never meant to-… If things are well enough then… Let us continue. Not to speak of them again?”
With that, she shifted back to her original position, face turned away from her sister to mask the shame that sought to crack her facade.
@a-mortal-coil
[☣] "You can deny it all you want but nothing escapes these eyes!" she practically hisses as she kneaded her sister's scalp with her knuckles to thoroughly wash out the dirt. She would remember how their mother would lovingly tend to their hair the same way, how she would braid them, how her sister would blatantly contest the idea of her plying her mother's teachings upon Katarina's hair, all of it, fond memories. "I understand, sister. I wish nothing but the betterment of our relationship as family. Yes, it does seem all too easy, but let me affirm that I am simply that much eager to mend things between us. Grievances that have been inured may go unspoken, but for the sake of this endeavor I am more than willing to proverbially bury this hatchet. Though I must say that I am offended that you think that this is some ploy to get back at you. For shame!" It goes without saying that her last few sentences were of impish intent but the fact that her intonation carried with it her usual snide deviousness and sarcasm meant that she had now fully calmed down.
"And that we shall, sister. That we shall. All of it, water under the bridge. Forgive me if I seem...flippant, callous. But as well spoken as I am when it comes to prying secrets from the tightest lips, my words fail me when I try to tell you just how precious are to me, you and that perpetually upset brother of ours." Her hands would come to settle upon Katarina's bare shoulders, further affirmation of her words as little as it meant. "I love you, dear sister. Perhaps that is the best way that I can put it, basic as it is. I hope you never forget or doubt these words."

[ Riven ]
Riven had always found similarities were a better and more solid way to build a working relationship with a set of individuals.  She’d heard the idea tossed around that opposites attracted, but that had never been the case for her.  The reason Katarina understood Riven as well as she did was because they’d lived similar lives to a degree, at least as far as death, war, and bloodshed were concerned.  Cassiopeia, on the other hand, had nothing in common with Riven, other than they both knew her sister, and Riven had to wonder if the two even spoke much regardless.  She simply shook her head and continued to listen to the snake woman speak.
"I’d think you’d know what my early life was like."  She replied to the comment with some mild surprise, lifting an eyebrow.  There were few Noxians who didn’t know about Riven, her climb through the ranks, her spirit, all that.  "My life consisted of fighting over scraps of food that you nobles wouldn’t even think to feed your dogs.  Each day was a struggle to eat, to find a warm enough spot to sleep to you’d manage to wake up the next day, and avoid the gangs that wanted your supper, your clothing, or your body…"  She clenched her jaw somewhat as she spoke the last statement.  "Military life was a luxury in literally every respect compared to what I’d lived through."
[☣] “Apparently, it's worse than I thought..." she was sympathetic, genuinely. Unfortunately, years of conniving politics has made her rather snide and nonchalant tone one that is innate. That and she couldn't help but feel a lingering twinge of guilt from some of Riven's words. "I'm...not quite sure how you will think of my following words but, for better or worse, I've always envied you and my older sister. To be able to take up arms and serve Mother Noxus the way you two do, I would have given up anything. Sadly, it was apparent that swordsmanship was not quite a savvy of mine." Already did she resort to spilling her guts in order to further a conversation. She was simply that much rusty.

[ Dearest Sister ]
Katarina hid her emerald gaze from her sister, turning away entirely as she somewhat hesitantly disrobed. Her discomfort did not stem from being bare, no that was entirely beyond the point, as they were both very much adults and had, at least before her sister’s incident, the same form. What bothered the noble as the silken fabric of her bedclothes slipped from her shoulders to pool upon the floor at her feet was again, Cassiopeia’s eagerness.
Was Katarina a fool for desiring to skip over the years of neglect she all but forced her baby sister through? Or was she the fool for failing to see the genuine nature that her last remaining family member acted out?
"You nag just like mother did," she muttered quietly as she approached the bathtub. It was an elegant thing, that tub, with its obsidian tiles, polished and set deep within the warm, mahogany of the floor. The intricate lay of the tiles, depicting no particular scene but simply curving and twisting together to create an endless design not unlike that which adorned her abdomen. Details Katarina had long since started to ignore as the steaming water rose as her body settled beneath its surface.
The eldest sat in silence then, inhaling deeply as she simply took a moment to enjoy the heat of the waters enveloping embrace.
"…. Are we really going to forget all of these years, Cass?" she eventually would ask quietly, brow knitting in slight as she alone drowned in imagined tension.

[☣] “Well, with Mother gone, someone has to take care of you. Now that you mention it, I did give specific instructions to the servants as to how to operate upon things the way you liked them, or at least how I remember you like them. I've not seen them since. Ah, well, I suppose it doesn't matter." And she would get to work as soon as her sister had settled in, her methods exceedingly careful so as to not injure her sister what with her perfectly manicured nails now being talons that could rip the flesh off of bone. She was determined, quite so, to make sure that her dear sister would feel like a spoiled princess. And then came the inevitable question.
Yet another choking silence befell upon them. The evening had turned out to be rife of it. But unlike what came before it, Cassiopeia would answer this one quickly. "If...there's one thing I learned in all of my years in this...form, is that poison comes in so many, many forms. let it stay long enough, It festers into a malignant abhorrence much like myself. As much of a snake as I am now, physically, I'd rather not be such a thing on the inside as well, at least to my flesh and blood. Forgive me if I fail to make a measure of sense This evening has been...nothing short of exhilarating. What I want to say is that, yes, for the better, I'd prefer we opt to put all those years behind us. So yes, you can calm down now. I can practically smell the tension off of you. And that's not a good thing. I mean look at you, goodness, the wrinkles. You are due for a facial right after this and I will not have you slipping away from it."

[☣] “From what I've learned, it is those that have the least in common with you that make the best companions. Rocky the road may be towards a more...favorable relationship, but it seems to be well worth the effort. Or so they say."
Though her air of confidence persisted, she began berating herself internally for her rather underhanded phrasing. Old habits die harder than what people have been led to believe, it seems. It was remarkably horrid what just a few years of locking herself away had managed to do to deteriorate her social skills. Unconsciously, signs of anxiety had begun to spring upon her features. Her glossed lips, pursed. While her capped talons now drudged against each other, producing the faintest shrill din. A topic of conversation was drastically needed. "What was your life before you enlisted? And afterwards, how did it compare?"
[Riven]
"I’m not in any particular hurry, Du Couteau."  Riven responded to the woman’s comments.  It wasn’t so much a rejection as a need for trust.  She’d learned to keep everyone at a distance.  It was safer that way.  The noble classes might have thought that calling one a friend was a way to build a network, but to Riven, the title meant much, much more than that.  Only a handful of persons in all her life had ever been given that mark.  Of those, only one remained.  The others were taken from her either by death or by affiliation.
"If you wish to speak to me, I will not stop you, but I’m not certain what we would talk about."  She glanced to the serpent and studied her briefly.  "After all, we have little to nothing in common.  We’ve lived very different lives."

[☣] "Yes... I..." There was no denying it, Cassiopeia was jarred with Riven's rejection. "Forgive me. I've forgotten how it was like to truly earn one's friendship. Pleasantries of the refined dictate that friendship is something that is so easily given in favor of acquiring what little political standing it can offer. That and...as you may know, my current condition required me to partake in a...social isolation. And yes, I know of your exploits during the Invasion. It was difficult not to. The regime responsible for it seemed verily proud of that wasteful military endeavor. No offense to what it had incurred upon you, truly."
Seconds would pass before the serpent would speak again. The art of conversation, it seems, is something she's grown to be out of practice. "You will have to pardon me again. Fearful servants and serpents drawn to me, thinking me one of their own, were the only things I had the pleasure of speaking with during my self imposed isolation. You may ask what you want, all the same with what you would like to tell me. That is, of course, if you are still willing to indulge my prattle."
ask-riven
"I’ve been friends with people that some would call worse than yourself, Du Couteau."  Riven took a seat near the snake woman and glanced to her.  "However, the title of ‘friend’ is not one I take lightly.  Friendship is not given, it is earned."  Riven did not let just anyone wear the badge of being her friend.  She kept herself distant from virtually everyone for varying reasons.  The only person she’d let get close was Katarina, and that was only because of the fact that they’d bonded, and understood one another a great deal.  Not to mention their past affiliation.  Riven had no such thing with Cassiopeia.
"As far as your sister is concerned, I think you have the wrong impression."  Riven lifted a brow.  Since when had the snake woman seen her interact with Katarina?  What glimmer was she talking about?  And when did she ask her about Katarina previous to this discussion?  If anything, Riven was confused, and perhaps a little wary…  "She served, briefly, alongside me in Ionia, and we became friends.  All we’ve done is recently rekindle that friendship, nothing more, nothing less."

[☣] "Oh please, don't be such a child. It will be like the old days where we would share that large tub in mother's bath with several of my dolls" she would recount all of this while she prepared her sister's bath, knowing by heart just how Katarina liked it, or at least how she remembered how Katarina liked it. "Alright now, in you go" the serpent would direct her elder sister, tapping at the edge of the tub. "Hurry now! Before it gets cold!" While Cassiopeia maintained an air of poise, what Katarina could not see was her little sister's tail just absolutely squirming from the excitement, from sheer eagerness to be able to tend to her sister again.
Cassiopeia was simply that much willing to start over with her sister. Even for someone as conniving and cunning as her, she knew the value of familial love, to be able to set aside old resentments for the better. Their parents would have wanted that, and it is what she wanted right now. No more hiding and festering in the shadows, no more wallowing in self pity and resentment. As heady as these sentiments may be die to them budding at the spur of the moment, they were things that Cassiopeia intended on following through with.

I've seen Cassiopeia's new lore and it's really had me in a bit of a fix. Not only have I rather lost my muse for her at the moment, I'm now wondering if whether or not my interpretation of hers will fit: a daughter of house Du Couteau devastated from having lost not only her prized appearances but also her dear father who hides behind a facade of viciousness.
